WELCOME
Welcome to my website.
My philosophy on Project
Management is that it is a lot more about “management” than it is about
“project”. I have seen more than a few projects suffer from a lack of
leadership, poor communications, and weak processes. I have yet to see
one fail because of the technology.
Project management is
different than Operational Management in that a project always results
in an organizational change. The change may or may not be considered a
good change by all the groups impacted. Furthermore, the functional
groups involved in the delivery of the project may feel they do not have
the time to spend on “another project”, particularly if they have other
functional responsibilities. A good project manager will work to
identify and understand the needs and motivations of the stakeholders
involved, and actively manage expectations to relieve potential
roadblocks.
Leadership for projects
can be difficult to delegate. Line managers who hold responsibility for
delivering day to day results may be over burdened with managing a
project. Team leaders who hold technical expertise may be more qualified
to deliver on the specifications of the project and less able to provide
leadership, direction and issue resolution.
Why consider a project
manager? Because in the end, it will be less expensive to the
organization. The project will have a better chance of being delivered
on time and within budget. A project manager will provide standard
processes to direct the flow of the project. More attention will be
focused on moving the project forward, since a project manager has the
success of the project as his objective. And better communications will
result, not only within the functional members of the project team, but
also the communication of status and results to the organizational
leadership.
So, take a couple minutes
and review my site. See if my experience can translate into value for
your organization. And if you decide you want your organization to
develop a more positive outlook on projects, give me a call. What better
way to guarantee successfully implementing strategic change than to put
the right coach in charge of your project team.
Best Regards,
Robert
